What is Contrast Ratio
Contrast ratio is a figure used to measure the luminance difference between the brightest white and the darkest black. The contrast ratio will be listed as y:z where 'y' is the brightest white and 'z' is the darkest black.A recent example of the ratio is 10,000:1 meaning there are 9,998 shades of gray between the darkest black and the brightest white that the TV will produce.
Dynamic vs. native Contrast ratio
Dynamic refers to the practice of varying the LED backlights behind the LCD screen to achieve better contrast. The intensity of the LEDs behind the LCD screen are dimmed in dark scenes and brighten when showing bright scenes. With local dimming, the dark parts of the screen can get darker, while the bright parts stay bright. Good local dimming can make LCD TVs perform much better.
Dynamic vs. native Contrast ratio
Native contrast ratio is a narrower measurement generated also by manufacturers to denote that the ratio is confined at least to white and black measurement from the same screen at the same time from the same source. This would compare to ANSI checkerboard pattern.Native contrast ratio is what the panel alone can do, whether OLED or LCD (or plasma, may it RIP).
